Accreditation of business education programmes
ECBE is a not-for-profit organisation which accredits courses and programmes, concentrated within the field of business, at the undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate levels. It is necessary for Institutions to become a member of ECBE, before starting the accreditation process. Each institution undergoing accreditation is required to carry out a self-evaluation, an internal critical appraisal, using the guidelines provided by ECBE. This is then verified by a visiting team of peer evaluators. Following the report made by the visiting team, recommendations are made, which may include the award of accreditation.
Consulting
As institutions work through the self-evaluation requirements for accreditation, they often realise that changes need to take place. ECBE provides advice and assistance in initiating the necessary changes and improvements within an institution. A broad range of educational consulting activities is available including; establishing quality standards for international organisations; certification; internal evaluation of management needs and adapting to Bologna Declaration requirements.
Creativity and Innovation
ECBE requires that institutions undergoing accreditation show that the faculty and the administration regularly evaluate the content and value of its courses and programmes. ECBE expects to see that individual professors, as well as the institution, as a whole, are creative and innovative ensuring that courses and programmes meet the challenges of the global market place.
Development of New Courses and Programmes at all levels
In line with its goals ECBE assists institutions in the development of courses which meet the challenges faced by the business world of today and tomorrow.
Project Development and Management
ECBE works with its member institutions in the development of projects which may obtain public funding. ECBE provides administrative support and advice for these projects.
e-Learning Platform
ECBE provides access to an effective, efficient and well established e-Learning platform. ECBE also provides training in the use of the platform for internal and external use. Not only can this platform be used as an intra-net but it also provides the opportunity to develop courses and programmes; for internal use; distance learning programmes; and through a bourse, the possibility of exchanging courses between institutions.
Seminars
ECBE organises a variety of seminars for professional training. The training is developed to meet the needs of institutions and individuals. Customised courses are developed and delivered to organisations or institutions worldwide.
Annual Conference
The annual conference is held at the end of May or the beginning of June every year. The conference alternates its venue between East and Western European to reflect the interest of the ECBE membership. Recent conference venues and themes have been:
ECBE 2007 Kiev - "CIS and EU Co-operation for Business Education"
ECBE 2008 Brussels and Bruges - "Life Long Learning"
ECBE 2009 Athens "Innovation and Creativity"
ECBE 2010 Lausanne "Co-operation and Competition in the leisure and Service Industries"
An official record of the proceedings is published for each conference. Papers and presentations from all conferences can be obtained from ECBE and are available to members on-line.
Conferences provide an excellent opportunity for networking with a balance between formal presentation and more informal discussion over meals and participation in cultural visits.
